Legislative update

Thursday, December 20, 2018

Dear Neighbor,

Before we get to legislative news, Faith and I want to wish you and your family a merry Christmas and a happy New Year. Please be safe out on the roads if your holiday plans involve travel.

As for the latest from St. Paul, the Legislature is busy preparing for the 2019 session to begin. This includes putting together new committee rosters. While the full lists are not yet final, I have accepted an appointment to serve as the lead Republican on a House committee related to jobs and economic issues in Greater Minnesota.

The committee officially is called the Greater Minnesota Jobs and Economic Finance Division. I am pleased to serve in that role with this committee since it will be making important decisions to benefit people of all ages in House District 12B and throughout Greater Minnesota.

As a lifelong resident of Greater Minnesota, I see the challenges we face every day. Workforce development and workforce housing shortages need to be addressed. Access to broadband internet service should be improved. Issues related to care for both children and seniors are extremely important, along with rural health care in general.

Those are just a few of the challenges we face and I look forward to working on bipartisan solutions to help the people of Greater Minnesota. Stay tuned and I will be back with more frequent updates as we get to the Jan. 8 start of session. I also plan to resume my regular column submissions to newspapers in our district, so watch for those as well.

Sincerely,

Paul
