Legislative update

Friday, January 17, 2025

Dear Neighbor,

The House of Representatives came to order Tuesday to start the 2025 legislative session. It was an honor to once again perform the oath of office, and I look forward to continue doing my best to represent the people of District 12A.

I also was thrilled to be able to administer the oath of office to Rep. Lisa Demuth as she made history by being named our state’s first black Speaker of the House.

As always, our state faces a number of significant challenges and it’s nice to get back to St. Paul so we can get busy working on all the issues we’ve been talking about the last several months. House Republicans are focusing on a list of priorities we share with Minnesotans for the 2025 session, including:

  • Stop the Fraud
  • Make Minnesota Affordable
  • Make Minnesota Safe
  • Raise Standards, Reduce Mandates
  • Minnesota Tax Dollars for Minnesotans
  • Build for the Future

Personally, I look forward to serving as ag. chair since it’s a subject I am passionate about that is very important to people in our district. I also will serve on committees related to energy and state government this biennium and am eager to work with those committees as well.

While it is nice to get the legislative session off and running, it is disappointing to see House Democrats have not yet showed up and are staging a boycott. Minnesotans sent us here to the Capitol to govern and deserve better than this sort of politics. I hope they show up soon, joining House Republicans in doing the work citizens elected us to do instead of staying home and collecting a paycheck.

I will be back soon with more from the House. In the meantime, here are some links to help you follow along from home:

Have a great weekend and please stay in touch.

Sincerely,

Paul
