ST. PAUL – Minnesota House Republican Leader Lisa Demuth has appointed State Representative Paul Torkelson (R-Hanska) as Republican chairman of what is traditionally recognized as the most powerful committee in the Minnesota House: Ways and Means.
“I am very pleased to receive this appointment and look forward to approving fiscal proposals that benefit all Minnesotans, not just a select few,” Torkelson said. “Too many of our residents are now struggling thanks to choices made by an all-Democrat controlled state government, so it’s time to restore some balance and common sense to our decision making.”
The House Ways and Means committee is responsible for creating the state budget in the House, and for setting how much money each of the finance committees can spend.
During his legislative tenure, Torkelson has previously served as chairman of the Minnesota House Transportation and Capital Investment committees. He represents all or portions of Brown, Redwood and Blue Earth counties.
