Dear Neighbors,
Happy Fourth of July! During the long holiday weekend, take a second to remember what our independence means, and how grateful we are to live in our great nation. Have a fun Independence Day, and be safe!
Surrogacy Commission
On Wednesday, we held the first meeting of the bipartisan Surrogacy Commission to discuss various surrogacy issues in our state. Gestational surrogacy carries many implications that we need to discuss as lawmakers. I’m honored to be elected as co-chair of the commission, and look forward to continuing to work on this issue.
Special Session
Negotiations between legislative leaders and the governor regarding a possible special session are ongoing. We passed an $800 million tax relief and a bonding/transportation proposal, but neither were signed into law. Both of the bills had wide bipartisan support, including almost 90% of the legislature in favor of the tax relief bill. Instead of making a large list of new demands – as the governor has done – we should work on what we agree upon and repass these bipartisan bills to help Minnesotans in our area and around the state.
Around Town
This weekend, July 2-4, is the Coon Rapids 4th of July Celebration! This family event features carnival games, a parade, a 5k race, and of course there’s a fireworks show on Monday. You can find further details on the Coon Rapids website here.
Already coming up next weekend is the Andover Family Fun Fest on July 8 and 9. This is one of my favorite local events of the year, and features various food vendors, games for kids, and a parade. Click here for more information.
