Dear Neighbors,
Happy Spring! I know it won’t last forever, but I hope you’re like me and are planning to take advantage of this amazing weekend!
Bill Passes Committee
This week, my bipartisan bill to prevent the Department of Public Safety from using GPS-capable devices as part of the ignition interlock program passed out of the Civil Law Committee. The use of these tracking devices started without legislative approval, and may be unconstitutional. We need to encourage drunk driving offenders to use proven safety methods – like ignition interlock – rather than install tracking devices that may push people away from this life-saving program.
I’m encouraged to have bipartisan support on this bill, and will keep you updated as it proceeds through other committees.
Around Town
Next weekend, Saturday the 25th, is the Coon Rapids Polar Plunge. The Coon Rapids Police Department is working with Special Olympics to organize the event. For more information, click here.
The 2017 Simply Elegant Wedding and Special Events Expo is coming up soon! The expo will take place on Saturday, March 4 at the Coon Rapids Civic Center. Feel free to click here for more information.
St. Paul Visits
I had a number of productive meetings with folks from our district. Nurses, representatives with the YMCA, auto dealers, and President Kent Hanson and Vice President Donald Lewis from Anoka Technical College all stopped by this week. If you’re planning a trip to St. Paul, please call or email to schedule a time to meet; I’d love to chat!
Enjoy your spring-like weekend,
Peggy
