Dear friends and neighbors,
I want to say a big congratulations to both Andover basketball teams for making it to state! The girls and boys teams had great seasons, and we’re very proud they were able to represent us in front of all of Minnesota. Great job to both teams!
Omnibus Bills
This week, we’re putting out many of our large budget bills. Of note is our tax bill which would provide $1.35 billion in tax relief in the next two years. We’ve heard loud and clear from Minnesotans: the state has a surplus, and it’s time to return a big chunk back to the taxpayers. Our bill would help working families paying for childcare, recent grads paying off student loans, seniors on Social Security, and small businesses throughout the state. Of the three tax relief bills released so far, the House is the largest, and I look forward to supporting tax relief for Minnesotans.
Puppy Day
With the long committee hearings and contentious debates, it’s enjoyable to have a few minutes to let off some steam. We were fortunate yesterday to be able to play with some puppies for National Puppy Day. Uber joined with Secondhand Hounds to bring some adorable puppies to our building; what a fun time! Here’s a short video from the event.
Local Visits
On Thursday, a local student, Evan, shadowed me for the day. He has a keen interest in government, and it’s easy to tell he’s going places.
If you know a student who might be interested in getting a closer look at the legislative process, please call or email; I’d love show them around the Capitol! I always enjoy meeting students of any age, and encourage our young learners to come to St. Paul.
I was also fortunate to visit with representatives from Anoka County Conservation District. They’re a great resource for citizens interested in preserving our soil and water.
If you’re planning to be in St. Paul and want to schedule a visit, please contact my office. I’d love to hear what’s on your mind.
Enjoy your weekend,
Peggy
