ST. PAUL – Rep. Peggy Scott, R-Andover, issued the following statement regarding recent news that eight schools in the Anoka-Hennepin School District are receiving school safety grant funding totaling $489,000 combined. Last session, the legislature approved and Governor Dayton signed into law $25 million in capital investment funds that schools could apply for to make physical safety improvements.
“Creating a safer environment for Minnesota students, teachers, and staff was a top priority this session, and I’m happy to see Anoka-Hennepin schools using these grants for that purpose,” said Scott. “Our goal is to build on this success, and continue making progress on school safety when session resumes in January.”
The legislature approved an additional $25 million in school safety grants as part of the supplemental budget bill, but those funds were vetoed by Governor Dayton.
