Rep. Scott Legislative Update

Thursday, January 16, 2025

Hello from the State Capitol,

On Tuesday, the Minnesota House convened for the beginning of the 2025 legislative session. I served as clerk pro tempore for the event.

As expected, all 67 House Republicans attended and were sworn into office. None of the 66 Democrats who were elected as state representatives bothered to show up.

Since my last report on this Democrat nonsense, Democrats have continued their partisan tantrum. After House Republicans organized on Tuesday by electing a House Speaker, Democrats announced they have filed a lawsuit saying the House is not lawfully organized.

You’ll recall House Democrats were “sworn in” during a secret off-site gathering that even the press didn’t know about prior to the start of session. And they will still be collecting their legislative paychecks even though they refuse to work.

House Republicans are ignoring these political shenanigans. We are moving ahead and doing the job you elected us to do. We want to stop the fraud that is running rampant under Governor Walz’s leadership, make our communities safer, and make your lives more affordable.

COMMITTEE ASSIGNMENTS

Recently I learned the committees I will be serving on over the next two years, and was very pleased with the assignments. I was named as Chair of the Judiciary Finance and Civil Law Committee, and will also serve on the Ways and Means, Rules, and Higher Education committees.

LOCAL VISITORS

This week, I had a great visit with constituent Chelsea Markwald, who is a member of Minnesotans for Health and Parental Rights.

Thank you for stopping by!
