Dear Neighbors,
On November 11, we will observe Veterans Day recognizing the sacrifices of our military personnel. For generations, mostly young adults left their homes and families to live in dangerous situations, uncertain of their future. Yet they went – and continue to go – not for the glory, but for the desire to serve and protect the United States. Many of us have family members who served and their bravery resonates with all generations who follow.
Please take some time tomorrow to attend one or more of the many events happening throughout Minnesota. Check with your local community to find a ceremony near you. For more on the official Minnesota Veterans Day observance, click on this link:
As we honor those who served, it is important to remember that the battles don’t end when they receive their discharge papers. Many veterans struggle to reintegrate into their former lives after their deployment ends. There are resources to help:
Minnesota National Guard – Beyond the Yellow Ribbon
Minnesota Assistance Council For Veterans
Homeless Veteran Prevention and Assistance
Minnesota Department of Veterans Affairs
Our veterans have earned our respect. Let’s honor them not only on Veterans Day, but every day of the year.
Sincerely,
Jerry Newton
State Representative
