Neighbors, The usual activity of the legislative session is stepped up a notch this week as we near two key deadlines on Friday. Committees are meeting into the evening to hear legislation as we work toward our May 20th adjournment, two months from today. The Veterans and Military Affairs Committee is no exception to the more intense workload and this week we heard several measures, including appropriating funds to assist organizations with the cost of Veterans Day events, providing free access to the Minnesota Landscape Arboretum for disabled veterans, and removing the burial fee in state veterans' cemeteries for spouses and dependents of eligible veterans. You can watch the entire committee here. ____________________________________________________________________ And a reminder if you, or another veteran is struggling with mental health issues, the Veterans Crisis Line can help in times of need. Veterans can use this option by dialing 988 and pressing 1 to contact the Veterans Crisis Line. Veterans may still reach the Veterans Crisis Line with the previous phone number—1-800-273-8255 and Press 1—by text (838255), and through chat at VeteransCrisisLine.net/Chat. Tax ChangesIf you are a Minnesota homeowner or renter, you may qualify for a Property Tax Refund. The refund provides property tax relief depending on your income and property taxes. Learn more here. House Approves 101 Environmental ProjectsMinnesotans take pride in our legacy of environmental stewardship. DFLers passed legislation to fund 101 projects across our state to protect our wildlife, water, air, and soil. The funding, which comes from the Environment and Natural Resources Trust Fund, uses a portion of our state lottery proceeds to ensure our environment and natural resources are protected for generations to come.
