News from Representative Daudt 04-17-2014

Thursday, April 17, 2014

Dear Friends,

The legislature is on Easter/Passover break this week, and will resume for the final weeks of session on April 22nd. I've been on the road this week with Senate GOP Leader David Hann traveling to all corners of the state talking with local media about the effect single party control in Saint Paul is having on your taxes, health care, and Minnesota's economy.

When one party dominates the political process, compromise and bipartisan solutions that Minnesotans expect take a backseat to divisive legislation pushed through on party-line votes. We saw it on the federal level when national Democrats passed ObamaCare, and we're it again now with the disastrous policies Democrats have put in place during their single-party rule.

This session, instead of listening to Republican input and incorporating our ideas to gain bipartisan support, Democrats are pushing through controversial legislation without a single Republican vote.

The results have been clear: $160 million to bring a failed ObamaCare website to Minnesota. A $90 million brand new office building for politicians. A bullying bill with a $20-25 million unfunded mandate that puts policies of politicians and bureaucrats above those of local school districts and teachers.

I talked about these, and the other disastrous results of one-party control in my speech last week on the minimum wage bill, another bill pushed through with no Republican votes and bipartisan opposition. You can watch the speech by clicking here or on the image below.

With just a few weeks left of session, I will continue urging my Democrat colleagues to take a more balanced approach as we move forward. If you have any questions as session comes to a close, please don't hesitate to contact my office by calling 651-296-5364 or by emailing rep.kurt.daudt@house.mn. As always, my door is open, and I look forward to hearing your input and ideas.

Lastly, I wanted to wish you and yours a blessed Easter/Passover. This is an important time of year for Minnesotans of many faiths, and I hope you have the chance to reflect and celebrate with friends and family this weekend.

Take care,

Kurt Daudt
House Republican Leader
State Representative, District 31A
