Dear Friends,
We are in the final hours of session and instead of focusing on permanent, meaningful tax relief, House Democrats are pushing for more than a 15% increase in spending in a non-budget year. We passed a budget last year to fully fund state government for the biennium. There is no reason for Democrats to be pushing for this massive spending increase.
Minnesota families are struggling. This week the average gas price hit $4.12. Inflation coupled with the supply chain crisis is making the cost of groceries soar. Now is not the time to spend more and expand our bureaucracy.
Democrats are forcing billions in new permanent spending as a condition for tax cuts. We have a $7 billion surplus. When state government is fully funded there is no reason to spend more when we should be returning that money to the taxpayers in the form of permanent, meaningful tax relief. We are heading towards a recession. It would be irresponsible to spend more when we are facing economic uncertainty. Minnesotans need more of their money in their pocket and out of the government’s purse.
Session will conclude at 11:59pm on Sunday evening. From now until then I will continue to fight against this irresponsible Democrat spending spree to make sure that government is a good steward of your tax dollars.
