Dear neighbor,
This week I introduced the Family Freedom Act. This bill would prohibit independent contractors who are hired directly by individuals to be personal care attendants or by families who run businesses out of their home from unionizing. Several of my Republican colleagues have signed on to this bill as well as DFL Rep. Jay McNamar of Elbow Lake. With the bipartisan support, I am hopeful this legislation will make it through the House.
Last Friday I had the privilege of visiting Alexandria Technical and Community College for a thank-you event to recognize those responsible for assisting their school in purchasing a Mazak Turning Center, a Mazak Machining Center, and the associated tooling necessary for advancing the Machine Tool Technology program to meet the industry’s demand for highly skilled graduates and workers. I had fun touring the school and meeting with staff members and students. The two new pieces of Mazak equipment that the students will now use will help them be able to keep up to date with technology with today’s high demands and will enhance the already great quality of the workforce we have in our community. Thank you to the private businesses who partnered with the school in this endeavor.
Tomorrow I will be holding my usual Saturday morning coffee meetings with constituents at the Alexandria Caribou from 11:00 to noon. Next week I’ll be in New York Mills in Otter Tail County to do coffee meetings with constituents. Stay tuned for more details.
