ST. PAUL, MN—On Monday, the Minnesota House of Representatives passed a bipartisan $825 million Capital Investment bill that includes several projects championed by Rep. Deb Kiel, R-Crookston. In the bill, $3 million would be provided for the North Country Food Bank which serves 21 counties in Northwest and West Central Minnesota. There is also funding for Greater Minnesota Academic Renewal which will help the University of Minnesota-Crookston make upgrades on their campus, as well as dollars dedicated to the Public Facilities Authority which will fund projects for communities like Climax who are updating their clean water systems.
“I am pleased that our bonding bill includes funding for critical-local needs in Northwest Minnesota,” said Rep. Deb Kiel, R-Crookston. “We’re helping make sure families in need have food on the table, supporting important clean water projects, and championing our local higher education institutions. This is an infrastructure-heavy bonding bill that focuses on the shared priorities of Minnesota, and I am hopeful we can get these projects to the finish line before the Legislature adjourns later this month.”
More than two-thirds of the Capital Investment bill is dedicated to brick-and-mortar projects, such as roads and bridges, water infrastructure and statewide asset preservation. The bill will also need to pass the Senate before heading to Governor Dayton’s desk for signature.
