Dear Readers:
I wish you a blessed and safe Thanksgiving holiday spent in the comfort of friends and family.
Please join me in counting the many blessings we have in our area: strong schools, quality health care, good friends and neighbors and a real sense of community.
Reflecting on the positive things that bring us together, we understand that giving back is an important way to support the strong social networks that have given us so much.
Our district is fortunate to have countless service organizations dedicated to helping those in need this holiday season and throughout the year. There are many ways to get involved, and many groups welcome new members at any time. It’s never too late to volunteer, become involved, meet new people and make a difference!
With increased pressure on our food shelves, especially during the holiday season, food donations are important as ever. North Country Food Bank in Crookston (northcountryfoodbank.org, 218-281-7356) has a great resource list of numerous charitable food programs in northwest Minnesota.
Local businesses could also use our support, especially in border communities where competition across the road is tougher than ever. Nov. 30 is Small Business Saturday, serving as a day to celebrate local businesses and all they do to enhance the quality of life in our towns. Shopping in the area helps our local economy—let’s keep those retailers busy!
My husband, Lonn, and I are expecting over 30 family members and friends for the holiday. As we prepare and share in this fellowship, we extend well wishes for a very Happy Thanksgiving from our house to yours!
Sincerely,
State Rep. Deb Kiel
