Dear Neighbors,
Here is an update from the Capitol.
Alzheimer’s Research Grants
This week, I introduced the Alzheimer’s Research and Support Act, a bill offering several million dollars for competitive grants to scientists researching Alzheimer’s cures, treatment and prevention. Dementia grants also funded in the bill will help empower caregivers through tools to cope and better care for their loved ones.
There is already strong bipartisan support for this bill at the Capitol, and an understanding of not only the devastating emotional effects this life changing disease can have on families, but also the financial toll it can take. Looking for a way to cure a disease that affects 1-9 Americans over 65 and 1-3 Americans over 83 is critical, and funding this research could lead to a real breakthrough.
Additionally, on Wednesday, advocates of Alzheimer’s research hosted a rally in St. Paul and also testified before the House Health and Human Services Finance Committee in support of my bill. It was wonderful to hear from so many caregivers and family members from across our state dedicated to finding a cure for this terrible disease.
Pork Producers at the Capitol
On Tuesday, I attended the Taste of Elegance event put on by Minnesota Pork Board. We enjoyed a variety of pork dishes prepared by some fantastic chefs.
I will continue to work on behalf of our hardworking farmers and pork producers, striving to pass legislation that benefits them and keeps rural Minnesota strong!
MARL
This week, Southwest Minnesota State University came down to talk about their Minnesota Agriculture and Rural Leadership (MARL) program. MARL helps train and develop agricultural leaders in Minnesota and is a fantastic program!
