Here’s a short update from a long week at the Capitol.
This week was very busy for committee work; Friday marked the first committee deadline. So what does that mean, those bills that have not been heard in a committee by this time are not likely to advance this session.
One item of note this week is that the Minnesota House passed the first bill related to “Real ID.” Up until now, state law prohibited Minnesota agencies from beginning the work necessary to prepare the state to comply with federal law.
The “Real ID” will allow Minnesotans to travel on commercial airlines and enter certain federal facilities without having their ID challenged. Again, this was an important first step to getting to that end. We still have work on this, but we are underway.
