Greetings,
One month is in the books at the State Capitol. Committee hearings are in full swing, and visitors are once again visiting in person with their state lawmakers.
PROVIDING EQUITABLE EDUCATION FUNDING FOR SARTELL ST. STEPHEN
I have signed on to a bill that would provide additional funding to the Sartell St. Stephen school district. Because of the number of students that attend the district and the local tax base, the school district is not receiving as much funding as it should be. My bill would address this by changing the law, making things more equitable and bringing more money to Sartell St. Stephen schools.
IF ATTORNEY GENERAL WON’T DEFEND LAWS, LEGISLATURE SHOULD
This session, I’m also carrying legislation that deals with Minnesota’s attorney general refusing to defend laws that have been approved by the legislature. Under the proposal, if the attorney general chooses not to defend and uphold our state laws, then the Minnesota Legislature would be given the authority and funding to obtain legal counsel to defend the statewide statute if it chose to do so.
