ST. PAUL – Minnesota House Speaker Kurt Daudt has appointed State Representative Joe Schomacker (R-Luverne) as Chairman of the Minnesota House Health and Human Services (HHS) Reform Committee.
Schomacker was recently elected to his 4th term in the Minnesota House of Representatives. He previously served as chairman of the Minnesota House Aging and Long Term Care Policy Committee.
"It's a great privilege to represent Southwest Minnesota in the legislature and a sincere honor to serve as the health and human services reform committee chair in the upcoming session,” Schomacker said. “We have significant challenges ahead of us as a state in terms of health insurance and the cost of care. I look forward to working with those looking to be part of the solution."
As HHS Reform Committee chairman, Schomacker will also oversee the subcommittees on Aging and Long Term Care as well as Childcare Access and Affordability.
Schomacker also reflected on the leadership southwestern Minnesota has shown in health and Human Services over the years.
"I hope to lead in the same way Doc Mulder did during his time as Vice Chair of the health and human services finance committee,” Schomacker said. “His common sense approach with a focus on caring for those who couldn't care for themselves is something we all should aspire to.”
The 2017 legislative session begins January 3, 2017.
