ST. PAUL, MN—Rep. Chris Swedzinski, R-Ghent, has been named chair of the newly-created House Subcommittee on Mining, Forestry, and Tourism, appointed by House Speaker Kurt Daudt, R-Crown, after Republicans expanded their majority in the Minnesota House following the 2016 election.
"Mining, forestry, and tourism are key industries that generate thousands of jobs and millions in revenue for communities throughout our state," Swedzinski said. "I look forward to working with my colleagues on efforts to ensure these industries continue to thrive and do what we can to eliminate unnecessary and burdensome red tape that may hinder the creation of good-paying jobs."
The Subcommittee on Mining, Forestry, and Tourism is an extension of the Environment and Natural Resources Policy and Finance Committee, which will be chaired by Rep. Dan Fabian, R-Roseau. Full committee assignments and committee Vice Chairs will be unveiled in the coming weeks. The full 2017-2018 committee structure and chairs can be found here.
