ST. PAUL – A bill Rep. Chris Swedzinski, R-Ghent, authored to provide remedies for gas station retailers when customers perform drive-offs in rental vehicles. has been signed into law by Gov. Mark Dayton.
Swedzinski said businesses have had a hard time tracking down people conducting these crimes and his House File 1876 will help facilitate prosecution.
“It makes it easier for the Petroleum Retailers Association to crack down on fuel thieves,” Swedzinski said. “With higher gas prices, more and more people are driving off without paying for their fuel and this allows the association to go after those criminals a little quicker and a little easier. I’m thankful governor Dayton signed that bill. Hopefully it makes a difference out in rural areas that are dealing with fuel thefts.”
