Swedzinski statement re: proposal to raise energy rates

Friday, November 1, 2019

ST. PAUL – State Rep. Chris Swedzinski, R-Ghent, issued the following statement Friday in response to Xcel Energy’s proposal to raise rates by 15.2 percent over the next three years. Swedzinski is the lead Republican on the House Energy and Climate Finance and Policy Division.

“This proposed rate increase is a down payment on the Democrats’ extreme New Green Deal energy push,” Swedzinski said. “We were told new carbon-reduction goals could be met while keeping customer bills at or below the rate of inflation, but reality is starting to set in. Minnesotans used to enjoy some of our country’s lowest energy prices but, thanks to Democrat policies, our energy costs are above the national average and could get even more expensive as they continue heaping expensive tax increases, fees, requirements and policies on people in our state.”
