ST. PAUL – State Rep. Chris Swedzinski, R-Ghent, and fellow House Republicans on Friday conducted a press conference Friday urging House DFL leadership to take action to fix the achievement gap. A recent study conducted by the Reserve Bank of Minneapolis found that the state’s achievement gap is among the worst in the entire nation and that disparities are evident across race, ethnicity, and socioeconomic status. Swedzinski said he and other House Republicans are working on bills they said would help close the state’s achievement gap. “I have authored House File 3790, which extends tax credits to individuals and businesses who make donations to fund K-12 scholarships,” Swedzinski said. “The expanded scholarship availability derived from this tax credit would assist our goal of closing the achievement gap by providing low-income children with opportunities to explore new educational choices that currently may be unattainable to them.” -30- |
