GHENT – Rep. Chris Swedzinski, R-Ghent, urges anyone who hasn’t already filled out their 2020 census form to do so before the window closes, starting today.
While paper census responses must be postmarked by today, people also can phone in their census responses between noon and 1 a.m. by calling (844) 330-2020. Residents have until 5 a.m. Friday to fill out the online census form at www.my2020census.gov.
“Just a reminder to get your 2020 census completed, tonight is the deadline,” Swedzinski said. “We want to make sure everyone in southwest Minnesota is counted. This is exceptionally important with redistricting to just know how many people live out here so, folks, report your census numbers if you have not yet done it and make sure you tell your friends.”
The deadline has fluctuated over recent months amid the COVID-19 outbreak and Swedzinski said is crucial to have accurate population totals, particularly because they are used to determine levels political representation and federal funding for the next decade.
“It’s just one of those things where filling out a census questionnaire may not seem like a big deal, but we have enough other things on our minds and can’t afford to let it slip through the cracks,” Swedzinski said. “The stakes are high and it is better to just check this off our list now to make sure we beat that new deadline and get an accurate count for our area.”
