ST. PAUL – State Rep. Chris Swedzinski, R-Ghent, issued the following statement in response to Gov. Tim Walz on Thursday including a $670 million tax increase in his updated state budget proposal for the upcoming two-year cycle:
“It is mind-boggling that our governor wants to raise taxes on hardworking Minnesotans during a pandemic, and at a time the state is running a strong surplus and is receiving billions more in federal aid,” Swedzinski said. “If Democrats in St. Paul can’t agree that tax increases are unnecessary now, will they ever? People in our state have been through enough challenges during the last year, especially those put out of work by the governor’s very own orders. We need to take the opposite approach by actually helping Minnesota workers and families get back on their feet after the setbacks they’ve been dealt. Tax increases only add to their burden.”
