Rep. Peter Fischer Appointed to Legislative Water Commission

Tuesday, January 17, 2017

SAINT PAUL, MN – On January 10, House Minority Leader Melissa Hortman appointed Rep. Peter Fischer (DFL-White Bear Lake) to the Legislative Water Commission.

“Water issues deserve special attention by the state legislature, and there’s no one who knows that more than our community,” said Fischer. “It’s particularly important that the Legislative Water Commission include an advocate for White Bear Lake and the northeast metro, so I’m pleased Minority Leader Hortman agreed to appoint me to this body.”

The 12-member Legislative Water Commission was created in 2014 when the Minnesota state legislature passed a bill authored by Rep. Peter Fischer. The body has the power to review water policy reports and recommendations of the Environmental Quality Board, the Board of Water and Soil Resources, the Pollution Control Agency, the Department of Natural Resources, and other water-related reports as may be required by law or the legislature.

“I’m ready to get results for the many families who have approached me with their concerns about water levels on our lake and the government red tape that so often gets in the way of even simple things like reusing storm water for irrigation,” Fischer added.

Other DFL House legislators on the commission include Rep. David Bly and Rep. Clark Johnson.
