Dear Neighbors,
Happy New Year! I hope this message finds you and your family doing well as we’re back at work at the Minnesota House. Here’s an update from the Capitol.
On January 3, I was sworn in as your State Representative. It is an immense privilege to serve as our community’s voice at the Capitol once again. This session, we have a great opportunity to make a real difference in the lives of all Minnesotans. I look forward to working in collaboration with my colleagues in the House, Senate, and the executive branch to pass meaningful and effective legislation.
With Democrats having a majority in both houses of the legislature, we are working effectively and efficiently to ensure we meet the urgent needs across the state. Reproductive freedom, affordable child care, improved education, paid family leave and sick time, and infrastructure funding are just a few of our priorities this session. You can watch House and Senate leadership discuss our shared priorities here.
At the Capitol
As many of you know, I have worked with the homeless population in Minnesota for some time now. I am pleased that I was appointed Chair of the Human Services Policy Committee. Many issues related to social services are heard in this committee and I look forward to moving legislation forward with a focus on the dignity of all Minnesotans. Also, I will serve on the Environment and Natural Resources Finance and Policy, Health Finance and Policy, and Human Services Finance committees
Other issues I will be focusing on in this session include continuing our work on water sustainability for the east metro. We must tackle both the issues of quantity and quality. I am also working on Right to Repair legislation so Minnesotans have more options to repair commonly-owned electronics like printers, etc. Stay tuned for updates on those initiatives.
