ST. PAUL, MN – Today the Office of Minnesota Management and Budget released a new budget forecast showing a projected deficit of $627 million for fiscal years 2014-2015.
Rep. Peter Fischer (DFL – Maplewood) released the following statement reacting to the February forecast.
“We need to put an end to Minnesota’s perpetual budget deficits.
Over the past ten years, our state almost entirely used cuts and gimmicks to ‘resolve’ deficits. Those short-term fixes hurt our schools, who we still owe over $800 million in funding, and increased property taxes by 86 percent.
Middle class families and our schools can’t afford any more short-term fixes. DFL majorities in the Legislature are committed to working with Governor Dayton to pass a budget that invests in our children’s education and puts an end to the status quo of cuts, borrowing, and gimmicks.”
