St. Paul – The League of Minnesota Cities announced yesterday that Rep. Mike Freiberg (DFL – Golden Valley) is a recipient of their 2016 “Legislator of Distinction” award. The League awards this honor annually to legislators who demonstrate a commitment to the best interests of cities through the legislation they sponsor and by being open and accessible to city officials.
“As a former city council member myself, I know how hard elected city officials and staff work to provide a good quality of life for members of their communities,” Rep. Freiberg said. “It’s important to do whatever I can at the Legislature to help these folks succeed in this goal, and I thank them for this recognition.”
The League recognized Freiberg, a former member of the Golden Valley City Council, for introducing city-friendly legislation this session such as a bill accelerating the effective date for a local government sales tax exemption and opposing legislation to restrict the authority of cities.
“When state and local officials collaborate, citizens can have more confidence in their government and services can be delivered more efficiently while meeting the unique needs of local communities more effectively,” he said.
This is the fourth consecutive year Rep. Freiberg was given the award.
