ST. PAUL—Minnesota state legislators gathered at the Capitol today for the first day of the 2017 Legislative Session. The 90th session of the state legislature will began with 131 members being sworn into office at noon on Tuesday, including third-term Rep. Mike Freiberg (DFL—Golden Valley).
“Representing the people of Crystal, Golden Valley, New Hope and Robbinsdale is a privilege,” said Rep. Freiberg. “There is a lot of work that needs to be done for the people of Minnesota. I have worked hard to build relationships with Minnesotans from all corners of the state, regardless of their political party, so that we can make real change for everyday Minnesotans and strengthen the middle class.”
Rep. Freiberg will continue to serve on the three committees he served on during the 2015-2016 legislative session: Health and Human Services Reform, Legacy Funding Finance, and Rules and Legislative Administration. In late December, Speaker Kurt Daudt appointed Rep. Freiberg to two additional committees: Government Operations and Elections and the Subcommittee on Aging and Long Term Care.
“These next two years will be busy and challenging, but I am excited to expand my role at the legislature. I have been a public health attorney for a decade and I have seen firsthand some of Minnesota’s biggest health care system challenges.”
Rep. Freiberg was also selected by his peers to serve as House Assistant Minority Leader for the 2017-2018 session. As an assistant minority leader, Rep. Freiberg will aid Minority Leader Rep. Melissa Hortman (DFL-Brooklyn Park) and the leadership team in advocating for caucus priorities on the House Floor, in the media, and across Minnesota.
