Legislative Update - December 9, 2020

Wednesday, December 9, 2020

Rep. Freiberg

Dear Neighbors,

Ahead of next week’s special session on Monday and the start of the 2021 Legislative Session on January 5, we’ll be hosting our final Senate District 45 Town Hall of 2020 tomorrow, Thursday, at 6:00pm. We’ll be holding the event on Zoom, and a link will be made available on Sen. Ann Rest’s Facebook page before the meeting.

Representative-Elect Cedrick Frazier will be joining us, who will be taking over Rep. Lyndon Carlson’s House District 45A seat next session. I look forward to him being part of the first of many town halls with the new Senate District 45 team. If you have any questions you’d like us to address, please feel free to reach out.

Vaccine Distribution Plan for Minnesota

This week, Governor Walz announced Minnesota’s COVID-19 Vaccine Distribution Plan. In partnership with the federal government and local communities, the goal is to quickly, equitably, and safely deliver the vaccine to Minnesotans in every corner of the state. No vaccine has been approved yet, but both Pfizer and Moderna have submitted plans for FDA approval, and others are currently in clinical trials. Both the Pfizer and Moderna vaccines are 95 percent effective, and will be administered in two doses. Despite the quick development timeline, the vaccines have had to meet strict safety guidance and rigorous clinical trials.

The vaccines and additional supplies will be distributed at no cost to providers registered for COVID-19 vaccination, and vaccines will be provided to people at no cost. This rollout will take patience, and meanwhile it’s important for us to continue to do all we can to slow the spread by masking, handwashing, distancing, staying home when we can, and getting tested for COVID-19 if feeling sick. There is light at the end of the tunnel, but hard days still lie ahead. It’s important we continue to take measures that protect our neighbors and ourselves.
