St. Paul, MN – Representative Brian Johnson (R-Cambridge) joined 16 other House Republicans in signing a letter to President Joe Biden, encouraging the President to commit to American energy independence, due to the recent conflict between Russia and Ukraine.
“The prices at the gas pump are unbelievable. People cannot keep driving to work if this is what they have to spend to get there,” Johnson said. “The President has a responsibility to protect America and put our interests first.”
Currently, AAA cites the national gas average at $3.66 a gallon. The letter encouraged America’s energy independence and requested the President open the Keystone XL pipeline. If opened, the pipeline would produce 830,000 barrels a day.
Additionally, the letter request that the President reconsider the cancellation of mineral leases in Minnesota.
“During his State of the Union Address, the President made mention of the computer chips that would be made in America. You cannot make those chips without minerals. These are minerals we have in Minnesota,” Johnson said.
