St. Paul, MN – Representative Brian Johnson (R-Cambridge) is signing off on a nonprofit exclusion for bail abatement.
“Bail is not something that should be used for political gain. A group of people cannot masquerade as a nonprofit to pay for criminals to get out of jail,” Johnson said.
The bill would be known as the Bail Abatement Nonprofit Exclusion (BANE) Act and would not allow a nonprofit to register a chapter to engage in providing payment to a person or state court to satisfy a bail condition.
