Dear Neighbors,
First, a big congrats to the Gunderson Brothers farm near Bowlus for being named a 2016 Minnesota Farm Family of the Year! David and Alan and their families run a successful dairy farm, and certainly deserve to represent Morrison County as this year’s farm family. Congrats, Gunderson family!
Special Session
You’ve likely seen reports about a special session to re-pass our tax relief and transportation bills. Although there’s still lots left for legislative leaders to discuss, I’m hopeful we can re-approve these bills to provide overdue, middle-class tax relief, and needed road and bridge funding.
Continued Goals
Throughout the summer and the legislative interim, I plan to continue my work in a number of areas to help your family. At the top of the list is aiding our at-risk children around the state. As a member of the Child Protection Taskforce, I supported and helped pass a number of bills to help vulnerable kids navigate extremely difficult situations.
Along with that, I’ll continue to strive for early learning scholarships to benefit young students in need. The best way to reach our learners and help close the achievement gap is through scholarships to help low-income families afford quality early learning education.
This year, we passed an additional $35 million for rural broadband initiatives, and I’m looking forward to helping those funds, as well as federal dollars, make a difference in our unserved and underserved communities.
Thank You
I’d like to take a second to genuinely thank you for your calls, emails, letters, and visits over the past two years. It helps me be a better voice for our area when I’ve heard your opinions on issues we’re discussing. Although we’re out of session for the biennium, I hope you will continue to contact my office.
After today, I will be unable to send out email updates because of the 60-day, post-session rule. I can still be reached at my office phone or email, and can assist you in any way you need. Please don’t hesitate to give me a call!
Have a great summer,
Ron
