ST. PAUL — Rep. Ron Kresha (R-Little Falls), Republican Lead on the Education Finance Committee, issued the following statement on MDE's statewide assessment results released today showing Minnesota students are continuing to struggle.
“These scores tell us what we have known for years – that Governor Walz and DFL policies and priorities on education are wrong for our students, parents, and communities. Governor Walz likes to brag about what will not happen on 'his watch,' but this is what we know is not happening on his watch. Third graders are not learning to read – they are falling further behind.
“It is time we focus on the fundamentals necessary to success in academics and the classroom, which is why House Republicans led the way and will continue to fight to put the Science of Reading back in our classrooms and work to truly empower our local schools to focus on what matters – reading, math, and science.”
