Hello Neighbors, The recent cold front has brought low temps along with the snow and ice, but has given us much better conditions for ice fishing and other outdoor winter activities. In the face of cold temperatures, our surrounding state parks have candlelit trails for snowshoeing, skiing, and hiking. These activities are great ways to get outside and enjoy our wintery weather! At Kathio State Park off Mille Lacs Lake, candlelit trails are ready for use along with other planned events. Check out the MN State Parks website for more information about winter activities. The 2025 Legislative Session kicked off on Tuesday, January 14th. I was sworn in along with the rest of the GOP Representatives. It was an exciting day at the Capitol alongside my colleagues, friends, and family as we looked ahead to what we will be able to accomplish this session. Our committees started meeting on Wednesday the 15th. I am honored to serve as the Chair of the Education Finance committee, as well as a member of both the Commerce Finance and Policy and Ways and Means committees. Late last week I had the pleasure of speaking at the Association of Metropolitan School Districts’ Session Preview Event. I am passionate about making Minnesota a better place for our students to learn, which begins with communication with schools to improve processes and expectations. I look forward to continued collaboration with key community partners so that we can improve systems and make Minnesota a better place to live, work, and go to school. Next week at the Capitol, I look forward to a full week of committees, caucus, and session. Keep an eye out for next week's update with more details about what I am working on. Additionally, I would like to congratulate our districts’ college students that received academic honors for the fall semester. To our students that achieved recognition on the Presidents’ list and the Deans’ list, I see your sacrifice and commitment to your studies as you balance schoolwork with other obligations. Job well done, students! BTW: By the way, stop at Roadside Restaurants in Aitkin for the biggest pancake in town to warm up from the chilly temps this weekend.
