Legislative Update

Hello neighbors,

While the frigid temperatures keep us hearty and remind us that winter still has a grip on the state, there are some activities that thrive in the cold. As a pilot, I often fly over Mille Lacs Lake, and it has been fun to see the ice houses out as people are fishing. I wish you all success on the ice!

On Wednesday, I attended the MCCL March for Life event at the Capitol. It was fantastic to see the supporters who braved the cold to protect the unborn.  Standing up for our future children and generations begins with a dedication to the pro-life movement. Thanks to all the area attendees. I was glad to host you and look forward to future conversations.

MCCL

This week, we received Governor Walz's budget proposal for 2026-2027. The proposal includes tax increases and reduces funding for long term care in Minnesota. This proposal will have devastating impacts on many groups in our communities. I know that schools, small businesses, and taxpayers cannot afford this proposal from Governor Walz.

In committees this week, we established our top priorities by introducing the first 10 bills. These bills, called House Files 1-10, highlight our main goals for the session. The goals include stopping the fraud, making Minnesota affordable, making Minnesota safe, reducing mandates while raising standards, building for the future, and keeping Minnesota tax dollars in Minnesota. It is important for me to share these priorities with you, because I want to be clear about the direction that we are trying to go moving forward. There are many opportunities for improvement in our state, and I am working to make positive changes for our communities and Minnesota overall.

Looking forward to next week, I will introduce aviation related bills that aim to support our growing aviation industry. I am also a co-author of the military spouse burial bill, which will allow military spouses to be buried in a military cemetery alongside their husband or wife.

Shoutout and congratulations to Chip Rankin, who was recently announced as an upcoming "Outstanding American" inductee by the National Wrestling Hall of Fame and Museum - Minnesota Chapter. Chip has been involved in the wrestling community and served in the U.S. Army for many years. Thank you, Chip, for your service and congratulations for this honorable accomplishment.

BTW - By the way, stop at Cedarwood Family Restaurant for a warm and hearty breakfast this weekend.
