Legislative Update

Monday, June 3, 2019

Dear Neighbor,

Here’s the latest news from St. Paul.

Governor’s Action

Last week, the Governor signed each of the budget bills totaling $48 billion, so we officially have a fully approved state budget. While most of the $12 billion in new harmful taxes and fees were removed from the final bills, Governor Walz said in an interview that he expects the Republicans to ask him for a gas tax increase next year. I am proud that Republicans were able to stop many of the most harmful taxes, and I’m disappointed that the Governor insists on continuing to pursue a 70% increase in the gas tax, indexed to inflation which would add an additional 1 or 2 cents every year thereafter. Gas taxes are one of the most regressive taxes we have, disproportionately hurting those who can least afford it, and those who drive in Greater Minnesota.

I want to hear from you: Do you want the Legislature to impose an additional $0.20 per gallon gas tax, indexed to inflation? Visit my Facebook and let me know!
