REP. O'NEILL CALLS ON SPEAKER HORTMAN TO REMOVE REP. THOMPSON FROM STATE FAIR SCHEDULE
MAPLE LAKE, MN — Rep. Marion O'Neill, R-Maple Lake, issued the following statement regarding Democrat State Rep. John Thompson, DFL-St. Paul, representing the Minnesota House at the House of Representatives State Fair Booth. Rep. Thompson is scheduled to appear at the House booth on Monday, August 30.
"It's unacceptable that Speaker Hortman would allow Rep. Thompson to represent to Minnesota House at the State Fair, and she should immediately take steps to remove him from the schedule. House Democrat Leadership, Gov. Walz, and countless others have called on Rep. Thompson to resign because of the credible and documented instances of domestic violence, including domestic assault by strangulation and exposing himself to children. If he's unfit to serve in the Minnesota House, certainly he's unfit to represent the legislature at the Minnesota State Fair."
Representative O'Neill is a leading voice on efforts to protect victims of sexual and domestic violence in the legislature, and has authored several bipartisan provisions that have been signed into law to strengthen rights and protections for victims.
