Rep. Marion Rarick Named Co-Chair of Higher Education Finance and Policy Committee

St. Paul, MN – Representative Marion Rarick (R-District 29B) has been appointed Co-Chair of the Higher Education Finance and Policy Committee, marking a pivotal leadership role in shaping the future of Minnesota’s higher education system. She will share the gavel with Democrat Co-Chair Dan Wolgamott (St. Cloud) and has already reached out to him to start to work together. They are both ready to get right to work.

“As Co-Chair, I am committed to ensuring that our colleges and universities are accessible, accountable, and responsive to the needs of Minnesota students and their families,” said Rep. Rarick. “We must have a balanced approach that equally prioritizes holding the institutions responsible fiscally and puts students first. I am looking forward to providing strong leadership to ensure our Minnesota colleges and universities are serving students and not their own institutional bureaucracy.”

Minnesota’s institutions of higher learning are facing growing challenges around campus safety, affordability, and workforce alignment. Rep. Rarick’s leadership will focus on addressing these issues through responsible budgeting, increased institutional oversight, and support for policies that prioritize students' success.

With the first 67-67 tie since 1979, leadership from both caucuses has agreed that all committees will be evenly split, with a chair from each party per committee. The full list of committees and committee chairs was released jointly by Republican Speaker Designate Demuth and Democrat Speaker Designate Hortman.
