STATEMENT FROM REP. JOHN PETERSBURG ON CORRIDORS OF COMMERCE ANNOUNCEMENT

Thursday, November 14, 2013
St. Paul, MN -- Representative John Petersburg, R-Waseca, issued the following statement regarding news that three Highway 14 projects were included in Governor Dayton and MnDOT's list of 'Corridors of Commerce' projects.

"Highway 14 expansion is one of the biggest transportation issues facing Southern Minnesota, and is one of the reasons I voted for the Omnibus Transportation bill back in May. I'm pleased to see these projects included, and think this is a step in the right direction. We still have work to do, and I will continue working with all stakeholders to make a fully expanded Highway 14 a reality."

The three projects are a part of a $300 million dollar 'Corridors of Commerce' program, financed by trunk  highway bonds signed into law by the Governor last May as a part of the Omnibus Transportation bill. The bonds will likely be issued July 1st, 2014, with the Owatonna project beginning construction in 2014. The other two projects are expected to begin in 2015. Details of the projects, including cost estimates are included below.

Corridors of Commerce Highway 14 Projects
  • Highway 14 expansion Owatonna to Dodge Center, $16-20 million
  • Highway 14 expansion N. Mankato to Nicollet, $20-28 million
  • Highway 14 Nicollet four-lane bypass, $15-25 million
