ST. PAUL, MN – Rep. Jeff Backer (R-Browns Valley) was among 37 lawmakers selected to participate in an annual training program that identifies and assists promising state leaders in the Midwest.
Rep. Backer will meet with fellow legislators from Minnesota, as well as legislators from 10 other Midwestern states and 4 Canadian provinces in Minneapolis from August 11th-15th during The Council of State Governments’ 23rd annual Bowhay Institute for Legislative Leadership Development (BILLD). BILLD was founded in 1995 to help young lawmakers meet the demands of increased policy responsibility at the state level.
“I look forward to attending the Bowhay Institute next month and I am flattered to have been selected,” said Rep. Backer. “This program will help me become a stronger voice for our district’s values through teaching me how to be more effective in St. Paul.”
The 2017 BILLD program will be held in partnership with the Center for the Study of Governance and Politics at the University of Minnesota’s Humphrey School of Public Affairs. The seminars will be focused on developing leadership skills and analyzing important public policy issues, such as the economy, health care, and transportation. The seminars will be conducted by Humphrey faculty, Midwestern legislative leaders, and professional development experts.
