ST. PAUL, MN -- Rep. Jeff Backer (R-Browns Valley), issued the following statement congratulating area 2017 Farm Families of the Year. The Farm Family Recognition Program is coordinated by the University of Minnesota Extension; the College of Food, Agriculture, and Natural Resources Sciences; and the College of Veterinary Medicine, and recognizes families from Minnesota's 87 counties who have made significant contributions to Minnesota agriculture and their communities. Farm Family recognition day will take place on Thursday, August 3rd at Farmfest.
2017 award winners from the 7 counties in District 12A are:
- Big Stone County: Dan and Deb Walters Family
- Douglas County: Dave and Amy Staples Family
- Grant County: Dan and Kay Persons Family
- Pope County: Emmert Family
- Stevens County: Lindor Farms, Incorporated
- Traverse County: Beyer Family
- Wilkin County: Jeff and Rebekah Christensen
“Farmers are the fuel of Minnesota’s economy,” said Rep. Backer. “It’s great to see these families honored for their commitment to the agricultural industry and our communities; I would like to congratulate them on receiving this award.”
