Dear Neighbors,
I hope you have had a great summer so far and have been able to enjoy the warm temperatures. Here’s a brief update on a few things that are happening.
New Laws Take Effect
On July 1st, a number of state laws that were passed last session became law. You can see a complete list of newly enacted laws here.
Relief for Farmers
I encourage farmers impacted by recent storms to take advantage of the Disaster Recovery Loan Program through the Minnesota Department of Agriculture (MDA). According to the Department of Agriculture, zero-percent loans will be available to assist farmers with flood-related clean-up, repair, and replacement costs that are not covered by insurance. The program is administered through the Minnesota Rural Finance Authority.
Relief is available for qualifying farmers in counties that received a disaster declaration from Governor Dayton. Stevens County was included on this list.
If you have any questions regarding this, please do not hesitate to contact my office.
Insurance Rates
Last month, the Minnesota Department of Commerce released preliminary rates for the 2019 individual insurance market, revealing that for the second consecutive year, Republican-led reforms have helped reduce or hold flat individual market health insurance rates after years of double-digit increases following the implementation of Obamacare in Minnesota.
Following the enactment of Obamacare, the individual market in Minnesota was in complete disarray with soaring premiums and little to no choice in health care plans. Today, those premiums have come down and choice has improved thanks to leadership from the House. Simply put, our approach is delivering results for Minnesota families.
Staying in Touch
Finally, due to Campaign Finance Board rules, email updates will cease until November. Nevertheless, if you need any assistance whatsoever on a legislative matter I am always available to help. Please call or email atrep.jeff.backer@house.mn or 701-361-1909.
Have a great summer!
