ST. PAUL — State Representative Jeff Backer, R-Browns Valley, released the following statement after the second report in a week from the Office of the Legislative Auditor (OLA) revealed rampant disregard for state policies and program procedures by Walz administration officials, leading to hundreds of millions of dollars in fraud.
"Thursday's report confirms what many of us already knew to be true, the Walz Administration did next to nothing to investigate and prevent the largest fraud scandal in Minnesota history,” said Backer. “The report shows multiple examples of a clear and blatant disregard for state policies and oversight measures that should have stopped these fraudsters in their tracks. Instead, the Walz Administration—whether through incompetence or laziness—failed to follow up on legitimate warning signs time and time again. Minnesota taxpayers deserve better from their elected officials and this latest failure proves again that balance is badly needed in St. Paul.”
