Rep. Backer Statement on Release of the Road and Bridge Act of 2015
St. Paul, MN- On Monday, House and Senate Republicans unveiled their comprehensive, future-oriented proposal for transportation improvements. The plan invests $7 billion over the next decade without raising taxes. The ten-year approach prioritizes road and bridge infrastructure through:
Immediate repair of roads in Minnesota communities
Highway improvements for commuters and commerce
Reliable, long-term funding without raising taxes
Also included in the proposal is $282 million for cities with 5,000 of fewer residents, $1.44 billion for county roads, $583 million for municipal roads, and $60 million for township roads and bridges.
Rep. Jeff Backer (R-Browns Valley) issued the following statement after the release of the plan:
“The overwhelming majority of Minnesotans are in favor of finding a responsible funding solution to address our state’s crumbling infrastructure,” said Backer. “I am proud of the thoughtful approach that we took in addressing this very important issue that will invest $7 billion into Minnesota’s infrastructure system without raising taxes.”
