Dear Friends,

I was so proud to see the tremendous turnout at yesterday's sendoff for our National Guard men and women who are heading off to Kuwait. So many people lined the streets waving flags and cheering as our servicemen and women departed. I pray for their safety and security while they're serving our country overseas and hope our community will step up and do what we can to support their families while they are away. We are so blessed to have these individuals fighting for us and serving our country.

Last night I attended the Sibley State Park Improvement Association Meeting last night and there was great 'buzz' about the work being done in preparing for the new bike trail into New London. Additional funding is needed to complete this trail and we have a bonding proposal all ready to go for discussion next session. Looking forward to working more with the DNR and Park leadership on this issue.

Thanks Bob & Patti
The Willmar Area Community Foundation recognized 2 amazing people last night in honoring Bob and Patti Dols. They have done so much for our area! Read more about their amazing work here.

ACGC Coach Recognized
There was a neat story in the Star Tribune I wanted to share about Atwater-Cosmos-Grove City Coach David Blom and his unique style that he hopes will prepare these young men with the life lessons they'll need to succeed beyond high school. Read the story in the Star Tribune by clicking here.

MNsure, individual rates rising
Last week saw some tough news for MNsure and those who buy their plans on the individual market. Rates are expected to jump between 14-49%, with most seeing an increase of at least 35%. It's going to take a lot of work on the state and federal level to get these rates under control and deliver on the promises that were made when the Affordable Care Act was passed. These higher rates have a real impact on family budgets, and are going to mean some tough choices as people look at their insurance options. Right now, the only way to get financial assistance is through MNsure.com. We passed legislation last year requiring the state to seek a federal waiver that would let folks get tax credits outside the exchange, which would hopefully mean more options. We'll see if that waiver comes through. I'll keep you posted on any legislation we pass next year to address MNsure.

Have a great weekend,

Dave
