Dear Friends,
Earlier today, legislative leaders and the Governor met in St. Paul to continue conversations on a special session that could be held as early as next month to repass a tax relief and bonding/transportation bill. I am pleased to share that it seems legislative leaders and the Governor are getting closer to an agreement.
While there are a still details and differences between the House, Senate, and Governor that need ironing out, I am growing increasingly optimistic that a special session will indeed take place sometime in August.
I will continue to support efforts for a special session that would re-pass the urgently needed tax relief bill and the bonding bill.
As for bonding, I will be pushing hard to make sure the bill contains good projects for our area like the one that passed the House on the last night of session. That bill included the New London bike trail to Sibley State Park, a kids’ state hospital in Willmar, and funding for Highway 23. There’s no guarantee that these projects will remain in a bill that would be considered during special session, but as your representative, I will do my absolute best to fight for projects that help Kandiyohi County.
As always, please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions or concerns regarding special session or any other matter related to state government. I can be reached by phone at 651-296-6206 or via email at rep.dave.baker@house.mn.
Have a great weekend,
Dave
