Next weekend, there’s a fun event in St. Paul to commemorate the reopening of our State Capitol. After four years of remodeling and renovation, we’re finally able to unveil this beautiful, historic building. From August 11-13th, there will be games for kids, tours of the Capitol, music, food, and much more. Here’s a complete list of everything you can expect throughout the weekend.
If you haven’t visited the Capitol since its renovation, this celebration is the perfect opportunity to get a close-up look at the People’s House. We were able to enjoy much of the Capitol this session, and I hope many Kandiyohi County residents will take this chance to see our historic building. Bring the whole family!
Health Care Update
On Monday the Minnesota Department of Commerce released preliminary rates for the 2018 individual insurance market and the news was positive. We’re seeing that the reforms we passed this year could finally end the four years of double-digit premium increases. That’s a big deal for hardworking families.
One thing I heard over and over from local residents was a need to make health insurance more affordable for the average Minnesotan. Monday’s preliminary rates release is good news for those on the individual market, and I’m proud to have voted for these provisions.
Farm Family Award
Today, University of Minnesota Extension; the College of Food, Agriculture, and Natural Resources Sciences; and the College of Veterinary Medicine will recognize the 2017 Farm Families of the Year. Representing Kandiyohi County are the Orsten families from R and R Family Farms.
Congratulations to Ross and Rhonda and their sons, and Robert and Rochelle and their five children, on this amazing award. We’re so proud of our devoted agriculture workers and all they do to put food on our table. Again, congrats to the Orsten families!
