St. Paul, MN—State Representative Dave Baker, R-Willmar, was recently named the Minnesota Psychiatric Society’s 2019 Paul Wellstone Advocacy Award winner. The award is given to individuals who have displayed long-term commitment to advocacy for Minnesotans with mental illness.
“It is a tremendous honor to receive this award from the Minnesota Psychiatric Association,” said Rep. Baker. “Since taking office in 2015, I have made it my mission to ensure Minnesotan’s most vulnerable citizens, including those with mental health illnesses, have access to top-notch health care. While we have made strides in recent years, there is still much more work to be done. I look forward to continuing this important work into the future.”
In a news release, the Minnesota Psychiatric Society said that Rep. Baker was honored thanks to his efforts to secure the children’s mental health care safety net and save the Child and Adolescent Behavioral Health Services Hospital which helps the state continue to serve youth who need the level of intensive services that are can only be provided at that type of facility.
The Society went on to thank Rep. Baker for his steadfast commitment to building solutions and his leadership addressing the opioid epidemic.
Rep. Baker accepted the 2019 Paul Wellstone Advocacy Award at the Society’s annual recognition dinner at the Minnesota Humanities Center in St. Paul on Saturday, May 4.
